30 Calories, 1g Net Carb — But Does Royo Bread Actually Taste Like Bread?

Sponsored — in partnership with Royo. Our take is our own.

Low-carb bread has a reputation problem: most of it tastes like cardboard and falls apart in the toaster. Royo Bread is trying to fix that with a plant-based, flaxseed-based loaf built around genuinely unusual macros. The only question that matters is whether it actually eats like bread.

The macros (these are real)

Per slice: 30 calories, 1g net carb, 9g protein, 5g fiber, zero sugar, plus 2,000mg of plant-based omega-3 (ALA, from flaxseed). For comparison, a slice of conventional bread runs 80–110 calories. It's vegan, low-glycemic, and made without artificial sweeteners or preservatives.

The real test: taste and texture

Numbers don't toast. The good news: Royo is denser and more substantial than the airy, crumbly low-carb loaves — it holds up to toasting, butter, and an actual sandwich, which is where most keto breads fail. It's not identical to a bakery white loaf, but it reads as real bread, especially toasted.

One honest note

Two honest caveats. The texture takes a slice or two to get used to — it's heartier and a touch denser than commodity bread. And it's premium-priced versus a grocery loaf; you're paying for the macros and ingredients. One precision point: the omega-3 here is ALA (the plant form), which isn't the same as the EPA/DHA in fish oil — it's a nice bonus, not a fish-oil replacement. Treat Royo as a macro-friendly, plant-based bread, not a health treatment.

The verdict

If you're counting carbs or calories and you miss real bread, Royo is one of the few that's worth the price — it toasts, holds a sandwich, and fits the macros without tasting like a compromise. Skip it if you want the cheapest loaf or prefer a light, airy crumb.
